Difference Schema Focused Therapy (SFT)

Schematherapy can work well, and is probably one of the best treatments currently offered there. However, an ISTDP therapist will say that schematherapy also includes the risk of remaining cognitive treatment (at some points crucial to the ISTDP therapist), without stimulating a change at the emotional level at those points. It is given a rational in places of trying to feel certain (violent or painful) emotions, with ISTDP therapists observing strong effects (e.g. ’total healing’). This rationalization in Schematherapy can therefore be the pitfall that it maintains the defense, whereas there are often good effects of Schematherapy.

So there are therapists who form both therapy and argue that schedule therapy sometimes does not take enough things that show an awful lot of (direct) effect within the ISTDP, such as client anger at the therapist, or experiencing Guilt. Sometimes emotions are mainly labeled, as a mode that is currently in place. The question that may arise is to what extent painful, difficult or negative emotions are invited as a result. Or to what extent the defences are addressed that occur in such violent emotions. The question therefore remains whether emotions at schedule therapy always break completely to be experienced at 100% and thereby lead to relief.
How does one check whether the furious child mode is actually feeling anger, or react more (discharge of fear that keeps the client away at the full intensity of anger)? Is there d
irect feedback on anxiety canalizations in the body, initiated by unconscious emotions that break through through active cooperation to evoke them and not get out of the way through defense? These are some
of the questions that are sometimes asked. ISTDP also uses rational, and there are even elements of cognitive behavioural therapy on certain subjects. However, this is targeted, and not leading. Freeing blocked or infused emotions is the primary process in which one sometimes sees a powerful, lasting result in a few sessions.

Na. If you are on the waiting list for Schematherapy, you probably have received the best possible (available) treatment. The discussion above may not always apply, a good Schematherapist can also reach and free (many) deep emotions with techniques such as the multi-chair technique, or imaginary re-scripting. This discussion is therefore more about the number and depth of emotions that can (usually) be achieved and thus liberated, which presumably assumes a therapeutic effect. If you have doubts about the extent to which effects of your Schematherapy have unpacked or persisted, you can include this with your Schema therapist. Of course, you are free to try the difference with ISTDP afterwards, comparing it sometimes does not hurt.
